At first glance, this set of three candles appears to be a colorful representation of popular characters, yet a closer consideration reveals a much bolder and more contemporary form of primitivism inspired by the work of Julio Parra. His effervescent scribbles and brushstrokes, seemingly splashed across the stark white background, are designed to convey positivism and a less racially charged view of the world. There is, however, a powerful message about social and economic inequality to be found in these images, and it is for the viewer to crack the code and make their own interpretation
